For some time, ASUS has been known to be working on a quite unique netbook, the Lamborghini VX6, and while it has yet to start shipping, the sports car-inspired mobile computer seems to be getting closer to mass availability, even being set up for pre-order.

As end-users may know, netbooks, particularly those based on the Intel Pine Trail platform, the majority as it were, usually stick to a display size of 10.1 inches.

Thus, the screen diagonal is the first unusual feature of the ASUS Lamborghini VX6, as it measures a full 12.1 inches.

Basically, as it is inspired from a sports car, the laptop was designed in such a way as to outmatch its existing peers in both looks and performance.

To be more specific, the VX6 is meant to be a better than average entry-level mobile computer, so it uses an Atom D dual-core CPU and a high-quality screen, among other things.

For one, the VX6 has a configuration centered on the Atom D525 central processing unit, a dual-core with a clock speed of 1.83 GHz.

Secondly, the chip is paired with none other than the NVIDIA ION 2 GPU (graphics processing unit), which can perform advanced tasks such as playing HD videos, among other things.

The ION GPU will definitely make full use of the LED-backlit display whose native resolution is of 1,366 x 768 pixels.

What's more, the netbook features 2GB of DDR3 memory, as well as a hard disk drive with a capacity of 250GB.

Other specifications include USB 3.0 connectivity, Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and a battery life of up to 6 hours.

That the device was approaching mass availability is a fact that was disclosed in late August, when the manual was published.

Now, the device is available for pre-order, priced at $699. It is pre-loaded with the Microsoft Windows 7 home Premium operating system.
