Even though not too much time has passed since the arrival of the last SaberTooth drives, Active Media Products created a new set and gave them the name of SaberTooth M1.

It was not too long ago that Active Media Products released its newest addition to the SaberTooth line of SSDs.

Bearing the name of SaberTooth Z, they have the 1.8-inch form factor and the PATA interface (they are detailed better here).

Now, that same company has stepped forth to launch yet more SaberTooth models, although these ones have the mini SATA (mSATA) interface.

For those unfamiliar with the mSATA connection, it is based on SATA II (3 Gbps) and uses an existing mini PCIe connector, though with a modified SATA pinout.

They measure 2.0 x 1.2 inches (51 x 30 mm) and comply with the JEDEC MO-300B mSATA specification.

"As a recognized leader in small form factor SSDs, we're fully committed to the mSATA standard," commented Active Media Products VP of Sales, Jerry Thomson.

"Whenever there's a breakthrough in technology like this that enables smaller and faster SSDs, AMP is on the spot with a line of products that leverage that technology, offering consumers an excellent new upgrade option. mSATA SSDs deliver excellent performance in a compact size, but also boast superior resistance to shock and vibration, so they are a superb storage medium for mobile computing."

As one has likely come to the conclusion by now, the SaberTooth M1 SSDs are intended for laptops (netbooks, notebooks) and other, ultra mobile items.

As for performance, prospective buyers might be pleased to know that the read speed is of up to 160 MB/s and the write speeds of up to 80 Mbps.

The product page has already been added to AMP's website. Users can choose between 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB capacities, all of which have the JMF605 SATA controller. The minimum price is $75.
