Justin Bieber may have been the biggest winner of the 2010 American Music Awards but the stage belonged to the ladies in terms of live performances. Taylor Swift was one of them – and the second performer of the night – and she sang her little heart out.

Shortly after the Country Music Association Awards 2010, Taylor performed again her ballad “Back to December” from the best-selling album “Speak Now.”

However, as MTV News also points out, this time, she chose to do something different at the end – just in case having her fly in the air with her piano was not enough to leave audiences open-mouthed.

“Many of the elements of the performance felt similar to the ones she used during her CMA Awards performance earlier this month,” MTV says.

Indeed, there was a live band and then there was Taylor playing the piano, even though she was high up in the air, coming down slowly towards the stage.

“This time, the AMA winner changed things up a bit, and before the song ended, she played around with the theme of the song by singing part of OneRepublic’s ‘Apologize’ as she stood up and finished up the tune,” MTV also says.

Since word in the media has it that she wrote “Back to December” as a way to apologize to her former flame Taylor Lautner, whose heart she apparently broke, the question of who she was apologizing to may seem redundant at this point.

Also towards the end of the song, Taylor got up from the piano and, mic in hand, walked towards the audience while she continued to sing, apparently overwhelmed by emotion.

As a reward for her performance, she got a standing ovation – the second from such an A-list audience in less than two weeks. However, if one goes online, one finds that regular people were not that impressed about the whole thing.

Take YouTube, for instance: while some agree that this may not have been Taylor’s best night, most are even more drastic than that, saying that she sounded too “flat” and was trying too hard to actually make the songs work, which she eventually failed at.

Then again, it could be all a question of taste. Below is the video of Taylor Swift performing “Back to December” at the 2010 AMAs: you be the judge.
