14 DAY TRIAL // At last night’s Country Music Association Awards, Taylor Swift took to the stage to perform yet another very personal song from her latest album, “Back to December.” Her flawless rendition got her a standing ovation.
As we also noted on several past occasions, Taylor’s “Speak Now” album, now out in stores, is her most personal work to date, since all the tracks included are written by her, based on personal experiences of the past months.
Not only is there a song (presumably) about Kanye West and one about John Mayer, but Taylor reportedly also wrote one for her former flame Taylor Lautner of “The Twilight Saga.”
That song is “Back to December,” a heart-warming ballad about regrets and a beautiful romance that is cut short because of Swift’s quest for “freedom.”
Critics (and fans) believe the song is Taylor’s way of apologizing to Lautner for breaking his heart, since she obviously can’t turn back time to undo the wrong, no matter how much she wants it.
All this emotion was transposed in last night’s performance, with Taylor, looking more beautiful than ever in a silver princess gown, playing the piano and singing her little heart out, as the video below will confirm.
Consequently, her efforts were not in vain and the audience was so moved by her song and impeccable performance that they gave her a standing ovation – to the surprise of Taylor herself.
As various celebrity bloggers note, at the end of the video, the camera cuts to a very confused Swift (apparently) angrily mouthing the word “What?,” which has prompted a lot of speculation about what may have made her react this way.
Some believe she saw someone in the crowd (perhaps Lautner himself, some even venture to say), others say she was shouting back at those who were booing her (though there seems to be no booing heard in the video below).
Swift’s rep, though, says that there’s little to the story: Taylor was just extremely surprised about how warmly she’d been received and that she got a standing ovation.
