Christina Aguilera is back in the game: at last night’s American Music Awards, after watching performances from Katy Perry and Rihanna, the diva took to the stage to perform the lead song from her upcoming movie, “Express (Burlesque).”

Like she promised fans hours before the show, she made sure the performance offered an insight into what they’re to expect from the film, granted they don’t know already from the trailers already released.

As MTV News also notes, the diva opened her performance sitting on a chair with her back to the audience – as the camera panned out, the backdrop was revealed: and it replicated one from a burlesque club.

Though at certain point in her performance, Christina seemed to be behind with the dance moves, towards the end, she fully got her groove on and showed the sassy diva the world has come to love along the years.

The attitude was there, the impeccable vocals were there – so there was nothing missing to make this one of the best performances of the night.

“She flashed back to the ‘Dirrty’-era Xtina, straddling and shimmying on the chair, then busting into the song’s uptempo chorus and showing off the throaty pipes that made her a star,” MTV News writes.

“Shaking her hair along with her lingerie-clad dancers, the singer was clearly back in her element, mixing club beats with a throwback, ‘Free Your Mind’-style R&B vibe and strutting across the stage confidently with her patented growly sass intact,” the publication further notes.

Before the show, Christina admitted to being quite nervous about the performance, especially since she had to learn the choreography for the film once more – and she knew it wouldn’t be easy for her.

“It will be another very new challenge for me. My legs have been incredibly sore as I stepped into the role of Ali for this. You’re going to get quite the show. Quite the spectacle,” she said before the awards ceremony.

Indeed, quite a spectacle it was, even if some voices online point out it could have been a lot better if Aguilera didn’t come across as so insecure on her footing at times.
