Since he ended his short-lived relationship with Taylor Swift in 2010, talk of Jake Gyllenhaal’s real orientation has picked up. So much so that, at this year’s Academy Of Country Music Awards, the hosts felt it was ok to make a gay joke at his expense.

What’s even more, Taylor Swift was present when all this went on, Us Magazine reports.

“As co-hosts Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire delivered their opening monologue, the night’s big honoree Taylor Swift came up,” the celebrity magazine says.

“Don’t make jokes about Taylor Swift. If you make her mad, she’ll write a song about you. She writes songs about guys who break up with her,” McEntire warned.

True story: Taylor herself has confirmed that she looks for inspiration for her music in her personal life, and many fans and music critics believe they can identify which song was written for Taylor Lautner and which for John Mayer, guys she dated and who broke her heart.

Since Taylor’s name came up, it was only to be expected for Gyllenhaal’s to be mentioned as well, though perhaps few expected this particular turn of events.

“Which I don’t understand in the first place. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she’s sweet. What in the world was Jake Gyllenhaal thinking anyway?” McEntire said, referring to the split of late 2010, which reportedly left Taylor reeling.

“Wait a minute, he was in Brokeback Mountain,” Shelton replied, implying that, just because he played a gay cowboy in the Oscar-winning film, opposite Heath Ledger, he must also be gay in real life

Though some of Jake’s fans found the joke in really bad taste, the audiences loved it.

“The country-music crowd laughed and cheered wildly at the joke,” Us Magazine writes. Taylor too probably appreciated the joke, word online has it, especially since the split was not exactly on amicable terms.

All jokes aside, Taylor also performed at the awards show. Below is her doing “Mean.” Enjoy.
