Jake Gyllenhaal has dated some of the most beautiful women in showbiz but, for some reason, rumors about him being gay never really went away. Adam Levine is now setting the record straight.

Jake and Adam are best friends so, naturally, the one should know this kind of things about the other, which is perhaps why Levine is speaking out on the issue.

Asked by Out magazine (via the Huffington Post) whether there is any truth to the Gyllenhaal rumor, Adam is positive: absolutely not.

“Will everyone stop thinking that dude is gay? Seriously guys. How immature is it of the media to perceive this guy – it has to be because of Brokeback, right?” Levine asks.

As fans must know, Gyllenhaal played Heath Ledger’s lover in the critically acclaimed “Brokeback Mountain,” a film that literally wrote history as regards portrayals of gay relationships.

“I’ve known this dude forever,” Levine goes on to say. “He’s one of my oldest friends, and it’s very weird that they have this – it’s very immature and infantile the way they treat his whole situation.”

Not only the media’s treatment of the issue is infantile, but it’s also potentially dangerous, the singer goes on to elaborate.

“If him hanging out with his bros means he’s gay, it’s like further perpetuating that weird homophobia that exists in our culture, which is just stupid. So, yeah, he’s my buddy. I [expletive] love the guy,” Adam also says.

For his part, Gyllenhaal can’t be bothered by the silly rumors – at least publicly, because he’s not saying anything about them.

The same goes for another very talented actor, James Franco, who recently said that he takes absolutely no offense in the media speculating about his orientation.

Franco, it seems, takes pleasure in causing confusion because it helps him take on parts that he wouldn’t have access to otherwise.

However, as we also informed you, being able to carry the role of a gay man in a convincing manner does not make him one, he pointed out.
