Skateboarding games have always been popular with gamers all around the world. But even though they tried to mimic a lifelike behavior from the characters on screen, things weren't so with the players who pulled off tricks only by pressing buttons on a console controller.

All of that will change, as the upcoming Tony Hawk Ride will feature a skateboard peripheral that will enable players to move in the same way as their character would on screen when performing tricks or maneuvers.

But when it was first announced, not a lot of people were confident in the new device that would be released by Robomodo, the developer of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. The president of the studio, Joshua Tsui, recently talked with VideoGamer and revealed that there would be a lot of titles that would use the peripheral and that people who invested it would have a lot to gain in the future.

“It's really important to us that when people buy this package that they understand that, right now we're concentrating on Tony Hawk Ride, but we want to make sure that people have a good return on their investment so there are many games that are planned for this peripheral,” said Tsui. “We look at it less as a peripheral, as more of a platform. The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we're really excited to start working on those.”

So, it seems that while it may cost quite lot, with estimates averaging at around $120, the game plus its peripheral will be an investment in the future, as Activision will certainly publish other titles that might use the gadget as means of controlling the on-screen action.
