Coming from Pandemic?

One of biggest blockbuster successes of the summer seems to be The Dark Knight, the new Batman movie directed by Chris Nolan and featuring the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, in one of the most memorable performances of an on screen villain. As we have grown accustomed, Hollywood is eager to exhibit cross platform appeal so we were a bit surprised that no official game accompanied the movie as it launched across the world. After all, Iron Man the movie was accompanied by a less than stellar but competent Iron Man game that shot up the videogame sales charts.

Well, it may just be that a Dark Knight game might be in the pipeline after all. One of the members of the cast of the movie disclosed the fact during an interview with G4TV which aired and was then taken down from the web page of the television channel.

Actor Gary Oldman, who plays Lt. James Gordon in The Dark Knight, has confirmed that a videogame based on the film is being made. He was talking about how a scene from the movie might be portrayed in the videogame and it seems that the actor might even have seen the game in action, as he said that apparently, in the videogame, Batman "jumps off the building and opened his wings to fly away and save the day, so it doesn't stop and start like you're watching a movie".

The coming weeks will see the release of LEGO Batman, a game which depicts the adventures of Batman and Robin using LEGO pieces. Given the tone of the Dark Knight, which is very dark and mature, and the humorous nature of the LEGO games, it is unlikely that this is the game that Oldman was talking about.

There was, at one point, talk that Pandemic might be making another Batman game, but no official information surfaced. Let's hope that Oldman's indiscretion will lead to some concrete proof that a Dark Knight game is being developed.
