Rapper says recession has not spared him either

When recession hits, it truly spares no one, as rapper 50 Cent has recently revealed in an interview cited by the Telegraph. Some might be tempted to believe that having millions secured in the bank and many side businesses going strong would also mean one can easily buy whatever one sees and wants. Fiddy can guarantee this is not quite so, as he’s now forced to sell his old diamonds in order to be able to buy new ones.

This, of course, has never happened to him before, which is why it’s all the more shocking now. Not that 50 minds it all that much, though, since he’s a businessman too (and not just a rapper) and, as such, he knows a crisis will always make victims among those of his “kind.” This also helps him appreciate more what he has and, above all, learn about the true value of money.

“The credit crunch has hit rap. I buy diamonds on a very regular basis, but now I am selling my old stuff before I get something new. These are times when you learn about the value of money. If you don’t lose money in this recession, it means you didn’t have enough to start off with.” 50 Cent says in the interview, as cited by the aforementioned British publication.

On the premise of that last argument, that you only lose money if you have money to lose, the rapper also admits he’s now a few millions short – but that’s only possible because he has so many. “Sure, I lost a few millions, but that’s because I have so much. This is a time that will sort out the strong from the weak. Any businessman who wants a piece of the future should learn for [sic] me. Obama is great. If he wants me as his financial adviser that would be cool.” Fiddy further says.

By all means, 50 Cent is not the only rapper to feel recession in terms of diamonds purchased. Just recently, P. Diddy, yet another successful businessman, accidentally lost a diamond ring while shooting for a television show and, in a desperate bid to get it back, held a 160-member audience “hostage” until the security frisked them all. He did not get the $20,000 diamond ring back, though.
