Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion is reportedly gearing up for the near launch of its first handset that would sport 4G connectivity. Various rumors on the area already emerged not too long ago, pointing towards a possible Storm 3 handset with LTE connectivity on board, and they re-surfaced now, with a few more info on the matter.

In addition to news on the company's upcoming 4G-capable device, some info on a newly announced software emerged. We're referring here to the BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 which was delivered a few days ago to RIM's beta tester community, and which has recently leaked into the wild. According to the guys over at blackberrycool, people interested in installing the solution should be able to find it available via various sharing sites.

As for the said 4G BlackBerry handset, a recent post on mynationlink suggests that it sports the codename of BlackBerry Triton, and that RIM is set to make it available on shelves sometime in December this year. Samir Sakpal, an analyst with Frost & Sullivan, also says that the upcoming mobile phone is expected to sport videoconferencing capabilities.

Those features would be enabled by the existence of a front-facing camera on the said BlackBerry Triton, which should be complemented by 5-megapixel photo snapper placed on the back of the device. This wouldn't be the first device to arrive on the market with a front-facing camera, nor the last one, that's for sure, and chances are that the rumor would pan out in the end.

However, it still remains to be seen which carriers would get the upcoming mobile phone. Verizon is expected to have the first LTE-based smartphones available for its users only next year, and a BlackBerry device might fit the bill. However, no other details on the handset emerged for the time being, though it might not be too long before they surface.
