38 Studios, the developer founded by famous ex-baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, has finally revealed its first game. Shilling is a big fan of fantasy titles and it comes as no surprise to find out that the first title that his studio will launch is an epic open world role playing game entitled Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It will be distributed by Electronic Arts and the project is headed by Ken Rolston, the lead designer of the well known Bethesda titles, The Elder Scroll III: Morrowind and the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The setting of the game was created by R.A. Salvatore, the author of the critically acclaimed Forgotten Realms series. He has written video games before, one example being Demon Stone, an 2004 hack and slash title. Todd McFarlane, the figure behind the Spawn comic books and animated series, will be directing the visual style of the game. The first trailer of the project developed by this all-star team of fantasy creators will debut at Comic Con today.

“In Reckoning, we started with Bob and Todd's exceptional Kingdoms of Amalur game setting and imagery,” said Ken Rolston, lead designer at Big Huge Games, a subsidiary of 38 Studios. “On that foundation we built the open-world exploration, vast narrative and character customization fans expect from the best RPGs. And we've added something new that we've always wanted from the genre -- a fast-paced, graphically stimulating action combat experience with fluid control and immersive, discoverable gameplay fans haven't seen before in other fantasy RPGs.”

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will allow players to explore the strange world created by Salvatore and unlock its mysteries in a lengthy single player adventure, according to Reckoning's developers. The game will be released in the autumn of 2011 for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 and the PC.
