A tiger cub born at London Zoo about three weeks ago passed away this past weekend after falling in the pool inside the enclosure it shared with its mother.

Vets who have had the chance to examine the cub's body say that all evidence points to the fact that the baby tiger drowned.

For the time being, keepers at the London Zoo cannot say how it was that the tiger cub got to the pool, Mirror tells us.

They suspect that its mother carried it outside the den and took it close to the pool, but, since no cameras are installed in this area, they don't know for sure that this is what happened.

This tiger cub was the first of its kind born at this facility in nearly 17 years. Hence the fact that the news of its death saddened staff and ordinary folks alike.

“The keepers are naturally very distraught. They work very closely with the tigers, so it is incredibly sad news for them,” a spokesperson for the zoo told the press.

“We're heartbroken by what's happened. To go from the excitement of the birth to this in three weeks is just devastating,” curator Malcolm Fitzpatrick added.
