The London Zoo has announced that it is now home to a Sumatran tiger cub that was born at this facility about 2 weeks ago, on September 22.

The baby tiger is the first of its kind born at the London Zoo in nearly 17 years, so it really isn't that much of a surprise that keepers are utterly delighted by its arrival.

The Telegraph tells us that the cub was born to 5-year-old Melati. Its father's name is Jae Jae.

Vets and zoo employees have not yet had the chance to closely examine it, so they can't say whether it’s a boy or a girl.

They say that they have no intention to enter Melati's den for at least one more week, thus giving her the chance to bond with her offspring.

The two are presently monitored with the help of a camera installed in their den. Check out the video below to see how the birth unfolded.
