3M's experience in the field of large-size multi-touch displays is quite extensive, and now, the company's back with yet another interesting product of this type, namely the C2254PW model.

Unveiled at the Digital Signage Expo 2011 in Las Vegas, this display offers a 22-inch diagonal size and is based on 3M's Projected Capacitive Technology (3M PCT for short), while its chassis makes it extremely easy to integrate in a wide variety of applications, mostly related to the kiosk and digital signage segments.

Without a doubt, what really makes this technology so interesting is the fact that it's capable of tracking no less than 10 simultaneous touch events at the same time, with the response speed being lower than 12 miliseconds.

Moreover, the touch-sensitive surface is absolutely huge (no less than 3,300 sensing locations), which means that chances of not picking up the users' specific their gestures or commands are quite slim, all things considered.

Additionally, this multi-touch display also offers users an anti-stiction coating, whose main purpose is to allow the users' fingers to glide more smoothly across the surface and enable an enhanced usage experience.

Moving on to the display-related characteristics of the C2254PW, we'll first mention that it offers 178-degree viewing angle (horizontal/vertical), making it a very good solution for off-axis viewing.

Quite naturally, the range of applications for such a control solution is absolutely impressive (outdoors/indoor kiosk, digital signage etc.), all of which are possible due to the fact that this thing sports quite a compact chassis (just 2 inches deep), complete with VESA mounting holes and side mounting Brackets, which help it fit within a variety of enclosures.

3M has provided no details on the pricing for their C2254PW multi-touch solution simply because it's not targeting the mass market segment, but mostly OEMs, system integrators and installers.
