Symbian has just announced that more than 20 million Symbain smartphones have been sold until now in Japan. It is a great number, and a milestone for the company in its rapid expansion on the smartphone market.

Actually, the company's growth can be easily seen in the figures of the phone models that have been put out on the market every year. Thus, from only six smartphones in 2004, Symbian has reached the large number of 55 Symbian OS-based cellulars shipped in May 2007.

Kiyohito Nagata, Vice President Managing Director, Product Department at NTT DoCoMo found the reason for such a fast development of the company and for the productive device sales. To make it clear, he stated that "Symbian offers functionality, security and flexibility that the mobile phone market demands, fast. We would like to further strengthen our partnership with Symbian to provide mobile phones that answer the needs of our customers".

Haruhiko Hisa, President of Symbian Japan, gave credit for the great number of mobile phones sold until now to the partners that have highly contributed to the company's development. For this, he stated that "We have reached the mark of shipping over 20 million Symbian smartphones as a result of the support we have been given by all our network operators, handset manufacturers and partners to become a more open and versatile OS. Going forward, we shall focus on contributing to the development of high function handsets at lower build costs as well as continuing to fulfill our important role of enlarging the mobile phone market."

Symbian is the global leader when it comes to mobile telecommunications software. This company develops and licenses Symbian OS, the operating system used in the case of smartphones. Even more, the company has shipped until now, at a worldwide level, an impressive number of 126 million of such Symbian enabled phones.
