Microsoft has big plans for next year when it comes to mobile phone software expansion. The company looks to reaching the number of 20 million worldwide sales for Windows Mobile.

They have calculated this prediction for the fiscal year of 2008, starting from July 1. Microsoft holds on to the ground gained against its rivals, Research In Motion and Symbian, and, even more, wants to double the business' size just as it has been doing up to this point.

"It reinforces the point that there's a single point of failure in RIM's infrastructure and it's provoking a lot of companies to look at the alternatives." said Pieter Knook, Microsoft's Senior Vice President for Mobile Communications. Of course, Microsoft is ready to take over all the disappointed clients of their competitors.

"This will be the fourth year that we have doubled our size and we are significantly outgrowing the market and also our competition. RIM and Symbian aren't doing this and we're gaining share and growing our portfolio.", further said Pieter Knook. The continuous expansion of Microsoft over other companies that provide phone applications is not shocking, as the software giant is grounded by years of technological breakthroughs that placed it over all competition.

Microsoft also wishes to take care of providing even more software for the 40 different handset manufacturers than the company has done until now. This includes Motorola and Samsung which are expected to choose Windows Mobile for a greater number of their devices than it has until now.
