Norwegian software company Opera has just unveiled some info on the usage of its Opera Mini mobile browser during the month of April.

According to the company, the mobile application enjoyed a number of no less than 107.1 million users, which represents an increase of 4.6 percent when compared to the previous month.

Opera also notes that the increase in usage that Opera Mini enjoyed shows clearly that it is the top mobile browser in the world.

In addition to unveiling the info on usage, the company also detailed the manner in which users take advantage of Opera Mini to access the Internet.

Apparently, social networking sites are becoming one of the most popular destination for mobile users, the company notes.

“Social networking has become the go-to function on the mobile Web, and different regions have their favorite sites. The Western world loves Facebook, while Russia and other CIS countries have taken vKontakte to their hearts,” the company announced.

Apparently, the top countries when it comes to accessing social networking sites would be Indonesia and the Philippines, with over 77 percent of the mobile users in these countries accessing Facebook and spending a lot of time socializing with their friends online.

“We see that a significant portion of Opera Mini users choose to participate on social networks,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software.

“Although each country has its own most popular social network, one commonality is that those who frequent such sites use them heavily, as seen in the page-view statistics described in the report.”

Opera also notes that it has a number of over 400,000 fans on its Facebook page, which is growing as one of the important manners in which the company can communicate with its users.

All the data presented above comes from Opera's State of the Mobile Web report, which can be found here.

This month's report was focused on Russia and the CIS countries, and shows the following:

- The top 10 countries using the Opera Mini browser in the region are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

- From April 2010 to April 2011, page views in the top 10 countries of the CIS increased by 198%, unique users increased by 65% and data transferred increased by 176%.
