Huawei and Honor’s officially licensed e-store, VMall, has just listed the Chinese company’s new premium mid-range smartphones, the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. The two devices are the successors to Nova and Nova Plus, which were introduced in September last year.

Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus bring a change in design for the mid-range line, introducing dual-camera setups on the back and an overall style that resembles that of Huawei’s flagship P series, rather than Honor smartphones.

The phone’s back panel is almost completely changed, with only the rear fingerprint scanner retaining its position, but featuring a smoother look. Moreover, Huawei changed the design of antenna lines on the back and placed a dual-lens setup on both the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus. The new devices are available in Aurora Blue, Grass Green, Gold, Obsidian Black and Rose Gold colors.

There are many similarities between the Nova 2 and Nova 2 Plus, and not just in terms of design. For instance, both smartphones will come with 20MP front cameras with a higher capacity compared the P10 flagship's 8MP camera. One difference between the two phones is the display size, with the Nova 2 having a 5-inch LPTS LCD screen with 1080p resolution, while the Nova 2 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen.

The dual-lens setup consists of a 12MP camera with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary 8MP sensor with optical zoom and portrait mode that also has the ability to capture depth information.

Both devices will have 2.5D curved glass on the front and metal bodies. The battery capacity inside the Nova 2 is 2,950mAh, while the Nova 2 Plus will draw power from a 3,340mAh juicer. The new phones from Huawei run the latest Android 7.0 Nougat and will go on sale starting June 16 in China, while pre-orders are already live.

The phones run octa-core Kirin 659 chipsets, replacing last year’s Snapdragon 625 chip. Nova 2 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage with a price tag of $365 (€325), while the Nova 2 Plus has the same RAM capacity with 128GB of memory onboard and a price of $420 (€375). Internal memory on both smartphones can be expanded to 128GB using a microSD card.
