Today, mobile phone carrier Vodafone Australia has unveield officially some more details on the availability of the Android 2.1 platform for its Sony Ericsson X10 and X10 Mini Pro users. According to the wireless carrier, the new solution should enhance the experience users receive from their devices, while also being expected to offer them access to more applications via the Android Market.

“Starting from November 2010, Sony Ericsson will offer a software upgrade that will allow you to record high definition videos. You’ll also enjoy continuous auto-focus for both still and video capture,” the wireless carrier notes in a recent post on its blog.

The new capabilities add to the existing features on the mobile phone, which include an 8.1-megapixel photo snapper, complemented by a 4-inch touchscreen display, and a 1GHz Snapdragon processor inside.

Following the update, all the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 devices that would be sold at the wireless carrier will come with the new platform version on board.

“As part of this upgrade, all new Xperia X10 HD, X10 mini and X10 mini pro smartphones will come with the Android 2.1 platform installed for an enhanced experience. Existing owners will be able to upgrade to Android 2.1 for free,” the wireless carrier notes.

The update process should be a pretty simple one for all users out there. The carrier will notify them on the availability of the new software solution, while the update will be performed via a desktop computer.

“Upgrading your Xperia smartphone is easy. You’ll be notified in the status bar of your phone when a new upgrade becomes available. Then connect to your PC and download it using Sony Ericsson PC Companion,” the company states on the aforementioned blog post.
