Navizon Inc. announced recently the signing of a licensing agreement with Redmond-based software giant Microsoft for the use of Navizon’s global location database to deliver services to mobile phone users. According to the company, the new agreement with Microsoft is expected to enhance the experience users of Windows Mobile-based devices receive.

“This agreement with Microsoft validates the power of Navizon's crowd-sourcing technology,” Cyril Houri, founder and CEO of Navizon, Inc., commented on the new licensing agreement announcement. “We are excited to see Microsoft join our fast-growing list of customers who have chosen Navizon for geo-positioning.”

Navizon is a software-only hybrid wireless positioning system, which offers navigation functionality to users in most of the major cities all around the world. The system has been developed so as to triangulate signals broadcasted from Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers, and the company says that its solution has been already embedded in a wide range of smartphones on the market.

Powerful smartphones are becoming one of the main tools for the modern urban lifestyle, and Navizon's solution is already being used by a community that spreads across various mobile operating systems and carriers. “Through rapid expansion in numbers, the community of users is able to constantly improve the precision and success rates of its wireless geolocation system,” the company notes.

Navizon’s community of users participate at the building of a dynamic database of Wi-Fi access points and GSM, CDMA and 3G towers, the company adds. The solution is already available on mobile platforms like Blackberry, iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian/S60 and Java, and it is also available to third parties via Navizon’s catalog of Enterprise solutions. The company holds a patent for its hybrid positioning technology, issued in July 2008 by the US Patent Office, which thus recognized the innovative nature of the system. Additional detail on the solution are available on the company's website.
