A surprising piece of news up on PCWorld.com says something about a vulnerability coming from the Adobe Flash that could affect your Wii while browsing the Internet with Opera. Apparently, some Wii users have experienced freezing because of this exploit and it's not just the Wii getting kicked in the butt by this, but other devices too, such as advanced smartphones.

Originally posted by PCWorld.com: "Symantec says a recently identified Adobe Flash vulnerability could affect the Nintendo Wii through the console's Opera internet browser.

Researchers at the security firm said the vulnerability has already been tested on Windows, Mac and some Linux apps, saying it reflects the increasing use of cross-platform hacks. As well as the Nintendo Wii, the security threat could also affect devices such as advanced smartphones, according to Symantec.

Nintendo Wii consoles that run the exploit completely freeze up while browsing a specially crafted video, said Symantec. Videos of the different effects of the bug on different platforms can be found on YouTube.

Symantec recommends users to update Flash Player with the latest patches from Adobe."

Nothing to get all excited about I guess. All Wii owners have to do is update their Falsh Player and that's it.

But did you know that the Wii's Optical Drive is very similar to that of the Nintendo GameCube? It sure is and that means it has a few similar flaws and backdoors as well. The intention of Nintendo to add support for standard DVDs indicated it should be possible to "persuade" the Wii software to read standard DVDs and load programs and data. On the GameCube, this was a popular method for running homebrew software.

Nintendo could have been more cautious with their latest machine, but hey, do they care what happens to it from now on? They've made their figures and then some. Anyway, it's not something to be scared of. There's a reset button on the Wii...
