Although the iPhone was one of the most anticipated devices on Verizon Wireless' network, it seems that sales are actually slower than what everyone might have expected.

First-week Verizon iPhone launch sales figures, available on the Internet courtesy of BGR, show that the critically acclaimed device is showing weak performance on Big Red's network.

Prior to the official release, Verizon was confident that the iPhone would prove a hit on its airwaves pretty soon, but it seems that things are not that promising.

The said numbers were provided by a source with Apple, and include unit sales totals from five Apple stores combined.

Here's how the sales of the iPhone reportedly looked like during the first five days of availability at Verizon:

Thursday: Verizon = 909, AT&T = 539 Friday: Verizon = 916, AT&T = 680 Saturday: Verizon = 660, AT&T = 471 Sunday: Verizon = 796, AT&T = 701 Monday: Verizon = 711, AT&T = 618

Of course, this does not mean that direct iPhone sales at Verizon are as slow too, and the carrier might indeed move more units than what would Apple sell through its stores, yet official info on the matter lacks at the moment.

Some other interesting details that should be mentioned here would include the fact that only 14 percent of the people buying the Verizon iPhone via Apple stores were AT&T iPhone owners.

Reportedly, 30 percent of those who purchased the Verizon iPhone were Android users, while 25 percent of Verizon iPhone buyers were BlackBerry users.

The online pre-orders between Verizon and Apple are said to have been of around 550,000 units.

The wireless carrier did not unveil specific details on the performance of the iPhone 4 on its shelves until now, but the numbers should be impressive when compared to other smartphones it has on sale.

However, it seems that it might still take some time before users would start to migrate to its airwaves in detriment of AT&T, just as some analysts stated a while ago.
