Neil Burger, the new director of the Uncharted movie project, has once again talked about the film and how he's starting completely from scratch, in order to truly highlight the protagonist, Nathan Drake, and how he can become a true hero for movie goers, not just for gamers.

The Uncharted series of games made by Naughty Dog and published by Sony have impressed legions of gamers with their top notch gameplay and cinematic experience, borrowing heavily from movies like Indiana Jones.

For some time now, Sony has backed up an actual movie project based on the Uncharted universe, which was led by David O. Russell.

Now, after the split, citing creative differences, a new director, Neil Burger, who previously worked on Limitless, is starting from scratch and aims at telling a more faithful story to viewers.

"I'm rewriting the script from scratch, starting like right now -- like we are just starting now," Burger told Joystiq. "I love the game, it's great, and I think it's a great start for a movie, because the game is so cinematic."

The new director went on to talk about the protagonist of the games, Nathan Drake, and how he can really make or break the actual movie.

"The character Nate in particular I like because he's this ballsy guy that lives by his wits, and who's capable of kind of anything and everything. He's fearless and he doesn't give a damn and he'll go after the thing. I dig that kind of character and it's a great character for a movie."

Burger avoided the issue of what actor will actually play Drake, even if he previously said that he is aware of the fan movement that wants Nathan Fillion to play the adventurer.

Fillion himself addressed the problem during last week's San Diego Comic-Con, urging his fans to let Burger do his job and if he is considered for the role, then he'll gladly try to earn it.

Still, seeing as how the script is barely being written, the Uncharted movie is still quite far away.
