Unbound Medicine, a developer of knowledge management systems for healthcare, announced that it is now providing medical content for Apple's recently released iPhone. The new offering gives iPhone users access to a vast array of continuously updated information on diseases, drugs and tests, as well as to medical journals.

Unbound Medicine's catalog of products available on the iPhone includes popular medical titles, such as: Harrison's Manual of Medicine and Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests from McGraw-Hill, 5-Minute Clinical Consult from Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Red Book from the American Academy of Pediatrics, and Davis's Drug Guide and Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary from F.A. Davis. In addition, using Unbound MEDLINE, health professionals can keep track of their favorite medical journals and quickly search more than 17 million journal articles.

Unbound Medicine is offering access to its products via a customized iPhone interface that makes good use of the phone's Safari browser. Users can easily navigate through contents by tapping on index terms or by performing searches from clinical-friendly forms. Clinicians can take advantage of the cross-linked articles and lists of related content to quickly go, for example, from a disease management discussion to a drug monograph for the correct dose, possible interactions and adverse effects of a recommended medication.

"Typically 70% of clinical questions go unanswered. Now, with pocket-sized Internet devices we can bring medical knowledge to the point of need, thereby improving patient care and reducing medical errors," said Bill Detmer, MD, President and CEO of Unbound Medicine. "By adding the iPhone to the long list of devices supported by the Unbound Platform we can help busy doctors and nurses stay abreast of the latest developments in their fields."

Unbound Medicine is offering for a limited time a demo of its iPhone interface. Interested users can experience and experiment with the user interface here.
