Twitter, the popular microblogging destination for millions of users around the world, has just announced a series of enhancements brought to its mobile web page, aimed at devices running under Android or iOS.

A new version of twitter.com for these mobile devices was made available, meant to mirror the looks and experience of an official Twitter application.

According to the company, the new release was meant to unify the experience it can offer to its users across mobile devices, regardless whether they can enjoy a dedicated application or not.

“This web app allows us to provide a high-quality and consistent Twitter experience on high-end touchscreen devices – whether or not an official Twitter application is available,” a post on Twitter's blog reads.

“It was built from the ground up for smartphones and tablets, which have more advanced browsers that support the latest web technologies, including HTML5.”

The new web app was meant to offer a fast experience to all users, with the ability to quickly scroll through your timeline, move between tabs and compose Tweets.

Since high-end devices come with great browsers, Twitter considered that it would be a good idea to take advantage of these capabilities, including touch gestures, or of the large screens the phones come with.

“And it’s simple – it’s easy-to-use and has the features you’d expect from a Twitter application, including your timeline, @mentions, messages that you can read in conversation view, search, trending topics, lists, and more,” Twitter continues.

The new web application was made available only for a limited number of users, on iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android smartphones. However, the company promised the availability of this software on more devices in the near future.

To benefit from the capabilities this application has to offer, one would simply have to point their phone’s browser to twitter.com. Provided that the new web app is not available, users would still have access to the existing version of Twitter for mobile.
