Not the Dell story again

Looks like Nintendo doesn't want to go on the same path as Dell did, with their Sony manufactured exploding notebook batteries and have decided to recall some DS Lite chargers.

According to computerandvideogames.com some 200,000 Nintendo DS Lite chargers have been recalled, in connection with some overheating issues. This recall by Nintendo is for Japan only, and the overheating issues can be blamed on a faulty batch. This recall seems like a preemptive measure on behalf of Nintendo, as no incidents have been reported so far. Looks like Nintendo knows that saying: "Better safe than sorry".

The Nintendo Japan website identifies the batch of DS Lite chargers in question, and plans to send a replacement to everyone affected, if they return the faulty cables. Note that this recall is only valid in Japan, and computerandvideogames.com reveals that these overheating issues do not affect US and European Nintendo DS Lite owners.

Since its early 2006 release, the Nintendo DS Lite handheld console has managed to sell over 26.82 million units worldwide, the biggest portion of this (12.5 million) being sold to Japanese customers. European and American consumers go neck in neck with 6.1 million units sold in Europe and 6.6 million in the US. The top selling game for this Nintendo handheld console is Nintendodogs, and not Pokemon as everybody thought.

I guess that many of you Sony fanboys out there will say that Nintendo DS and DS Lite are much inferior to the PSP, but keep in mind that the DS has managed to pulverize the PSP in sales over the past year.
