Mobile phone carrier Telstra is gearing up for the launch of a new device from Samsung, if some of the latest reports on the matter are to be believed.

After making available the Samsung Galaxy S last year, and other handsets from this phone maker, the wireless services provider is expected to launch a new flavor of that Android-based device, the Galaxy S Plus.

Just as its name suggests, the handset is an upgraded flavor of the Galaxy S. to be more precise, it will arrive with an application processor clocked in at 1.4GHz.

The Galaxy S Plus features model number i9001, unlike the original smartphone, which features model number i9000.

The new device sports a Qualcomm MSM8255T application processor, while the original came with a Samsung Hummingbird chip running at 1GHz.

But this is not all, as the new model also comes with support for 14.4Mbit HSPA connectivity, as well as with a 1650mAh battery inside (the original came with a 1500mAh battery)

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and offers support for a wide range of mobile services from Google.

The rest of the specifications list of the new device would be similar to those featured by the original handset, it seems.

This means that users will enjoy WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities on the new mobile phone, as well as built-in GPS receiver, 3.5mm headphone jack, and more.

Galaxy S Plus will arrive on shelves with a large touchscreen display as well, and with microSD memory card slot to expand the available internal memory. A high-quality camera should be included into the mix as well.

No specific info on when would the new mobile phone become available for purchase via Telstra emerged, but it should not be too long before that happens.

The wireless carrier is gearing up for the launch of Samsung Galaxy S II as well, and might have the Galaxy S Plus priced lower, so as to make it more appealing to users.
