Starting with Thursday, April 7th, mobile phone users in Canada have the possibility to purchase the new Android 2.3 Gingerbread-powered Nexus S by Samsung on the airwaves of wireless carrier TELUS.

The handset was already known to be on its way to the wireless services provider, and was also on pre-order in Canada via Best Buy for the past few weeks.

Following the availability of the new device through the said retailer, which offers it on contract through more carriers, TELUS too went live with the Nexus S sales.

Canadians interested in the purchase of Nexus S from this wireless carrier would have to pay $179.99 for it upon the signing of a contract agreement on a three-year term.

However, users would also have the possibility to choose two-year contracts, with the device priced at $449.99, or one-year terms, with the Nexus S going for $499.99. When purchased contract free, the smartphone costs $549.99.

One thing that should be noted here is that, although TELUS lists the Nexus S on its website, users won't be able to acquire it online, but would have to head down to the local brick and mortar store to make a purchase.

“Experience the fastest and most power efficient version of Android on the Nexus S, the first device in Canada to run Android 2.3 and the first to have a contoured super AMOLED display,” the carrier notes on its website.

Some of the main features of the new device would include a 4-inch Contoured Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a 1GH application processor inside, or 16GB of internal memory.

Moreover, the new device comes with Near Field Communication capabilities, Wi-Fi hotspot with support for up to 6 devices, rear and front-facing cameras, fast Internet browsing capabilities, as well as support for various Google Mobile services, and for applications available for download via the Android Market.
