BlackBerry Torch 9800, the first smartphone from Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion to run under the new BlackBerry OS 6, is already available for pre-order in its home land at wireless carrier TELUS, while being expected to hit shelves as soon as September 24th.

TELUS' customers interested in the new smartphone should head over to the carrier's website to pre-order the mobile phone.

Moreover, they should be able to make the same move over at Best Buy or at Future Shop.

The wireless carrier should have the new device on sale in less than a week from now, priced at $199.99 on a three-year contract agreement.

In case there are some who might have not encountered the new device until now, here's what they should expect to get from it, according to TELUS: - An all-in-one design with a high resolution 3.2” touchscreen, a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and optical trackpad - The next generation BlackBerry 6 OS featuring intuitive and easy to use universal search functionality, social network and RSS feeds - An enhanced video recorder and 5MP camera with flash, autofocus and image stabilization that lets you snap high-quality pictures - Wi-Fi that lets you seamlessly roam - Tabbed browsing that supports multiple open web sites - Powerful battery life with talk time up to 5.5 hours and Standby Time of 18.1 Days

It's a common fact that the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 slider is not a TELUS exclusive, and that other carriers in the country have also announced plans to add the device to their offerings on September 24th.

However, it seems that some of these wireless operators have already pushed back Torch's release date, including Bell and Virgin, as a recent article on MobileSyrup notes.

In addition to announcing the fact that Torch 9800 would arrive on its airwaves on October 1st, the Bell also confirmed the pricing for it, including the $199.95 cost on a 3-year contract, as well as the $599.95 no contract price tag.
