Taking advantage of the attention that the consumer-oriented IT market has gained as a result of CES 2011, Super Talent decided to make the official introduction of an SSD series known to exist since last year.

The collection of solid state drives (SSDs) that Super Talent devised is known as UltraDrive MT and is, predictably, composed of several 2.5-inch models.

As one might expect, the newcomers are mostly identical in their specifications, except for the storage capacities.

Unlike some products unveiled by Patriot Memory, Corsair, OCZ and Marvell, Super Talent did not jump into the SATA 6.0 Gbps bandwagon.

Thus, all the UltraDrive MT models use the SATA II connection (SATA 3 Gbps) and boast the newest Barefoot SSD controller.

The announcement made by Super Talent mentioned that the newcomers all had such assets as Garbage collection, TRIM support, ECC and Wear leveling.

These features are available thanks to the Indilinx Martini firmware and are what keep the UltraDrive MT units alive and running well.

"The UltraDrive MT offers an important balance between price and performance. Now is a great time to upgrade to an SSD,” said Super Talent COO, CH Lee.

Super Talent further claims that the firmware brought about a boost in random write performance as well, though the exact number is not given.

Fortunately, the sustained read and writing rates were not kept under wraps, them being of 255 MB/s and 250 MB/s, respectively.

The numbers are not exactly on par with what SandForce controllers are known to achieve, but the very small difference between read and write will no doubt prove most appealing.

Super Talent didn't provide any sort of pricing and availability details on the 60 GB to 240 GB products, even though it did say that “the new Ultra Drive MT represents an attractive price/performance between our Value Line and Enterprise SSDs.”
