Wireless carrier Sprint announced on Wednesday that it would soon add yet another mobile phone powered by Google's Android operating system to its offering, namely the Samsung Moment, a device that will be put on sale through all Sprint channels starting with November 1. The first Android-based Samsung handset for the US carrier comes with a touchscreen display, a QWERTY keyboard, support for 3G network (EVDO Rev. A), and a wide range of features.

The Samsung Moment with Google will deliver to Sprint users access to various Google services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube, along with support for Android applications available at the Android Market. Starting with November 1, those interested in the device will be able to purchase it from Sprint for $179.99 (excluding taxes) upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the carrier, $50 instant savings and a $100 mail-in rebate. The pre-order period has already started, and users can register for the device here.

“Sprint is thrilled to add the powerful and sophisticated Samsung Moment to our growing portfolio of Android devices,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product development for Sprint. "This is the second Android product that will be available from Sprint this holiday season. With a full QWERTY keyboard, Samsung Moment allows customers to easily access the thousands of applications available in the Android Market. The excitement around Android products confirms Sprint’s decision several years ago to be a charter member of the Open Handset Alliance and lead the Open revolution.”

The specification list of the Samsung Moment includes an 800 MHz processor, a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with flash, auto focus and video recording capabilities, Bluetooth 2.0, memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, 3.5mm headphone jack, media player, visual voicemail, support for social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr and Twitter, as well as for NFL Mobile Live, NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile and Sprint TV.

“The launch of Samsung Moment is an exciting realization of our commitment to providing consumers open, powerful and versatile devices,” said Omar Khan, senior vice president of strategy and product management for Samsung Mobile. “With the combination of the Android platform, applications, Web browser and a powerful 800 MHz processor, the user experience options are unlimited.”
