Sprint was expected to come to the market with the BlackBerry Curve 8350i for quite some time, yet it hasn't announced a release date until now, when it has also launched the device. The iDEN-only handset comes with push-to-talk capabilities and is meant to meet the needs of business customers, only that it does not feature a photo snapper.

What it does feature includes Wi-Fi capabilities, a thin, full QWERTY keyboard design, Trackball Navigation, GPS capabilities, support for the mobile phone operator's Nextel Direct Connect service that offers instant connectivity to all Nextel users (“across town, across the nation”), Group Connect or Voice dialing, Instant Messaging and SMS Text Messaging. Applications like Pocket Express, Sprint Software Store, Navigation, BIZ Apps, AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, NFL Mobile, NASCAR Mobile also come pre-loaded with the device.

This slim and fashionable mobile phone brings features like Web, email capabilities, Speakerphone, Bluetooth connectivity, pre-loaded business apps, corporate email, calendar, group calls using Push to Talk with the TalkGroup feature, International Direct Connect Calling and International Direct Connect Roaming, media player, stereo headset jack, Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint file viewer, as well as DataViz Documents to Go, which allows users to easily edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly on their handset.

The BlackBerry Curve 8350i measures 4.4" x 2.4" x 0.7" and weighs 4.7 oz. It includes a 1400 mAh battery able to provide up to 4 hours of talk time, and sports a microSD memory card for additional storage space (a 1GB microSD card is included in the package). The phone's TFT display is able to provide a 320 x 240 pixel resolution, as well as support for 65K colors.

Sprint
offers the new BlackBerry Curve 8350i for $149.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a mail-in rebate. At the same time, users can also purchase the device with no contract, only that they will have to pay $479.99 for it. Those who would like to benefit from the mail-in rebate will have to opt for a BlackBerry data plan or an Everything plan, Data Premier add-on or PRO Pack add-on.

CORRECTIONS AND CLARIFICATIONS:

For those of you first learning about the 8350i, there are two versions. One has a camera and one does not. The camera-toting phone has been out quite a while and the version without a camera magically showed up on Sprint's website a day or two ago. They both are 149.99 with a two year contract.

It should be emphasized for those not familiar with what the iDEN network is that this is a NEXTEL phone. It is not a hybrid like many phones offered from Sprint that have PTT.

Also, it was stated in the article that the phone features SMS. This is technically false. There is only the option to send MMS on the 8350i. The network then changes the message to SMS or MMS depending on message length and content.

I hope this prevented some later confusion.
