Innovative in-flight catalog company SkyMall recently announced the launch of SkyMall Mobile for BlackBerry. The new software solution is available for download for free from RIM’s BlackBerry App World store, as well as from the SkyMall Mobile Site, and has been developed in collaboration with Digby, the leader in mobile commerce solutions for retailers.

The new application for BlackBerry devices offers users the possibility to browse and shop SkyMall’s 10,000+ products via an Internet connection, all straight from the BlackBerry smartphone. According to the company, SkyMall customers can access product descriptions and full-color images, while being able to select addresses from local address books, or to place secure transactions fast. Moreover, they have the possibility to browse through the in-flight print catalog and purchase items directly from the handset.

The features list of SkyMall Mobile for BlackBerry includes: - Access to the full SkyMall catalog - Rich product descriptions and full-color images - Address book integration - Seamless integration with existing back-end cataloging and order processing systems.

“The SkyMall BlackBerry app from Digby is a critical component of our Mobile Channel Strategy,” said Jay Scannell, COO, SkyMall. “These mobile capabilities give our customers even greater flexibility in how they browse and purchase SkyMall products. The BlackBerry application was a natural step for us to take in delivering convenience and additional shopping options to our customers.”

The BlackBerry platform is the leading mobile operating system in the US smartphone market, accounting for 49.2 percent market share (according to a report available here). Since SkyMall is aware of the great role meeting user's needs has, it came up with this solution targeted mainly at business travelers, who often use BlackBerry devices, especially since they form an important part of SkyMall’s customer base.

“SkyMall’s multi-channel approach of integrating mobile with their existing channels is a great example of providing a seamless customer experience and a model for other retailers,” said Dave Sikora, CEO, Digby. “BlackBerry users can now shop through the product catalog and enter their order instantly using an application that provides the best shopping experience on their BlackBerry.”
