Video game developer Epic Games has announced that Gears of War 3, its third person cover based shooter, is set to get its second major title update today, around 2:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time, with a number of fixes and tweaks that the player community will surely appreciate.

The improvements include a new spectator mode option for the private versus matches, which is designed for use by gaming leagues, with one gamer on each side able to look at the fight and comment on it but also tweaks to medals and criteria for getting them and easier access to some mutators, like Roadie Comet and Regen Enemies.

A number of exploits, including one linked to the Smoke Grenade stun, have been fixed and other problems linked to the multiplayer mode have been eliminated, along with a less seen problems that led to frozen profiles and lost game progression.

Players can also now turn off the Heads Up Display, which has been requested by those community members who are interested in taking extensive video of their Gears of War 3 experience.

The full patch notes from Epic Games can be seen here.

Gears of War 3 is exclusive to the Xbox 360 home console from Microsoft and it has been one of the first big gaming titles of the fall to be launched, in late September.

The game did well during that month but since then the gaming world has seen the launch of titles like Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Need for Speed: The Run and Assassin's Creed: Revelations, which have stolen some of Epic's thunder.

The developers have said that they plan to support the game for the coming months, releasing more maps for the multiplayer side of the game and more skins and tweaks for players who are interested in cosmetic enhancements.
