Right after some developers proclaimed that the PlayStation 3 has an edge over the Xbox 360 in terms of power, Gears of War creator and Epic Games creative director Cliff Bleszinski has revealed that the Microsoft console has yet to see all of its resources exploited by games.

Epic Games has supported the Xbox 360 right from the release of the console through its Gears of War franchise, which quickly became one of the most popular exclusives for that device.

Now, after releasing Gears of War 3, which pushed the console to its limits with more refined gameplay, larger levels and better looking visuals, Cliff Bleszinski is still convinced that there's still some power left in the Microsoft platform.

"With creative programming you can squeeze anything out of any given platform," he told Edge magazine. "Go back to the demo scene where these guys would take a 286 PC and in 38k make a demo that rivalled the most triple-A game of the time."

"It's just a matter of code magic, time and effort. I don't know how much longer the 360 will be around, but I'm sure that if we have a product coming out before the end of [its] lifecycle we'll continue to try and squeeze more water from that stone," Bleszinski added, echoing some of his earlier statements.

While we most definitely enjoyed Gears of War 3, its visuals were certainly being held back by the limited power of the Xbox 360, especially when compared to games that appeared just for the PlayStation 3, like Uncharted 3, or titles optimized for the PC, like Battlefield 3.

Even if the Xbox 360 may have some power left, rumors about its replacement are popping up all over the web, with a recent one revealing its internal codename, Loop, as well as quite a few hardware specifications.
