Samsung Galaxy S II, the new flagship mobile phone the second largest handset vendor in the world, launched with Google's Android operating system on board, has reportedly registered over 200k pre-orders in the company's homeland market.

The South Korean company made the new device available for reservations on Monday last week, across all three major carriers in the country, and topped 200k pre-orders until Friday, when the Galaxy S II was put for sale.

On Monday, April 25th, Samsung Galaxy S II registered around 20k pre-orders in only one hour since registrations started, some of the latest news on the matter suggest.

Moreover, the mobile phone maker explains that, from 200,000 pre-orders, 160k were at the largest wireless carrier in the country, SK Telecom.

These numbers make the Galaxy S II the most popular smartphone on the local market, leaving the Apple iPhone 4 far behind.

However, we should note that the Apple device was launched last year only on the airwaves of one carrier in the country, KT, and that it became available through SK Telecom as well only earlier this year.

The Apple iPhone is probably the most popular handset in the world, but Samsung seems determined to take the crown from it with its new Android 2.3 Gingerbread-based device.

Further more, some of the latest rumors on the matter suggested that the handset vendor might plan the release of another high-end smartphone later this year, the Samsung Galaxy S III, which would prove a great competitor for the upcoming iPhone 5 device.

Until that would happen, Samsung has the new Galaxy S II to rival the iPhone. The handset was delayed by a few weeks, as the company bumped up the speed of its dual-core application processor from 1GHz to 1.2GHz.

The specs list of Samsung Galaxy S II also includes a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, an 8MP camera on the back, 16GB of internal memory, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, or 3.5mm headphone jack.
