South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung has just confirmed that it managed to activate a number of over one million Galaxy S II smartphones on its homeland market after the release of this device in late April.

Previously, the company announced that it had sold over 1 million units to carriers and retailers, and it seems that all of those devices are already in users' hands.

SK Telecom Co., the largest mobile phone carrier in the country, said recently that it managed to activate over 550,000 Galaxy S II smartphones since the device went for sale over a month ago.

At the same time, KT Corp., the second largest wireless carrier in the country, managed to sell over 300,000 units since the phone's release on April 29, while LG U+ Corp. sold 150,000 Galaxy S II handsets.

Courtesy of these numbers, Samsung reclaimed the leading position on the smartphone market in South Korea, getting back some of the market share it lost to rival company Apple and their iconic iPhone.

In May, Samsung enjoyed over 60 percent share of the local mobile market, the highest level it reached this year, up considerably from the 47 percent in enjoyed back in April.

Last year, the company made a great impression on the South Korean market with the launch of its Galaxy S smartphone, which became the top selling smartphone fast, with over 1 million units moved in about 70 days after launch.

However, it seems that the new Android device was selling even faster, showing that Samsung's newer products can indeed prove superior to rival solutions.

Samsung Galaxy S II, the latest flagship smartphone from the company, comes with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a qHD resolution, and packs a dual-core 1.2GHz application processor beneath it.

Moreover, the new device comes with an 8MP photo snapper on the back, offering users the possibility to record videos in full HD, as well as with a front camera for video calling.

The phone sports 16GB of internal memory, HSPA+, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS receiver, microSD card slot, and Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform on top.
