Coming in October

With no official confirmation yet on Grand Theft Auto IV heading to the PC, gamers will be happy to know that one of the more GTA-like games out there, Saints Row, is coming to the PC. Even if initial reports only hinted at Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 versions for Saints Row 2, a THQ spokesperson has confirmed that a GameStop listing saying that the game will be available for the PC on October 14 is accurate.

The original Saints Row told the story of how the gang that the game is named after took over Stilwater. The sequel will tell the story of the way the same gang manages to defend its dominion over the crime-laden town against three rival gangs that seek to take it over. Volition, handling development duties on the title, says that this game will be much darker than the original, presenting the player with the harshness of the gangsta way of life, while also underscoring the moral consequences of violence and unchecked power.

The game is set to be a little more intense than GTA IV, if early builds are any indication. As a gang member who fights for the turf of the pack, you'll quickly be armed to the teeth and ready to take on rivals on foot, by car or from a helicopter. Destroying rival drug labs and taking out leaders of rival bands are amongst the common missions.

The most interesting feature of the game so far is that it will feature single player campaign co-op, with a friend able to play throughout the game by your side. If one of the co-op players has not completed a mission in his single player progression, the game will remember it and, after he completes it in co-op, it will allow him to skip that mission altogether. The way in which the co-op play will affect the way the story of the game plays out remains to be seen.

And, if you're wondering, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 release dates are also set for October 14. So mark that down in your calendars.
