Report says Robert Pattinson used a body double for love scene in “Breaking Dawn Part 1”

At the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, Summit Entertainment dropped the first trailer to its most successful movie franchise ever, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.” The hottest topic of conversation right now, starting from said trailer, is whether Robert Pattinson had a body double for the love scenes.

Among other things, the much-anticipated trailer also showed glimpses of the wedding night between mortal Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen, which is precisely what started the body double debate.

As fans must already know, assuming they’ve read Stephenie Meyer’s original novels, because one is human and the other is the undead makes things somewhat tricky for the newlyweds on their wedding night, in that some furniture gets damaged as Edwards fights temptation to bite Bella on the neck during lovemaking.

The trailer, for instance, shows Edward’s back as he grips onto the headboard – and eventually breaks it.

Hollywood Life believes there’s a good chance that that is not Pattinson (or his back, to be more precise) we’re seeing, for the simple reason that the British actor is scrawnier and less defined.

“Robert Pattinson may be known for his dreamy looks and swoonworthy smoldering, but not so much for being the most muscular of guys,” the e-zine justly points out.

“So, it comes as somewhat of a shock to see the very muscular, and very ripped, back he is showing off in the Breaking Dawn trailer. In fact, it is so shocking that it begs the question – did Rob use a body double for his Breaking Dawn [love] scene?” HL asks.

“The theory would seem to make sense as the film’s first [love] scene is meant to show how strong Rob’s character is as he experiences his first time with his new bride, played by Kristen Stewart. This requires Rob to even crush the sill of a wall, as seen in the trailer,” adds the e-zine, asking whether Taylor Lautner stepped in to lend a hand – or his back, in this case.

Since this was brought up, we might as well note that the theory doesn’t seem that far-fetched, voices in the blogosphere note.

In fact, chances are high Kirsten Stewart too had a body double for the scene – but we’ll probably be able to form a more informed opinion on that when the movie comes out in November.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below – and leave a thought on it in the comments section.
