Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced that Rhys Davies, a golfer of Welsh origin, is set to become a brand ambassador for the upcoming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters, in which he will appear, wearing the logo of the game on his shirt in all the competitions he will participate in, with the focus being on the European golfing events.

Rhys Davies is one of the future stars of golf, having two victories on the European Challenge Tour in 2009 and scoring runner up finishes on the Asian Tour in 2008 and 2009.

He is seen as being one of the best putters in golfing and has a European Tour victory in 2010 at the Tropheé Hassan II in Morocco, which is pretty impressive for a golfer that is just 25.

Shaun White, who is a senior public relations manager for EA Sports, has said, “We’re extremely excited to be partnering with Rhys Davies. He had an exceptional rookie year on the European Tour in 2010 and is sure to achieve even greater success in 2011. We will work with Rhys on several initiatives during the season and give gamers an insight into the life of a tour professional.”

The golfer himself was pleased about the move, adding, “I’m delighted to be appearing in the new game and especially proud to be the first European Tour golf brand ambassador for EA SPORTS. It’s every golfer’s dream to be immortalized in a video game and I can’t wait to compete against my virtual character.”

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 is the first game in the long-running series that will allow players to step on the carefully simulated grounds of the Augusta National and play for the green jacket in the Masters Tournament.

The move to make Rhys Davies an ambassador for the game shows that EA is losing patience with main star Tiger Woods, who might not be in the game any longer in next year’s edition.
