Real-Life Wiimote Tennis

Again, anything but the controller's normal usage

It appears that Nintendo's Wii has turned the world around with its features. Well, mainly the motion sensitive one, because it's the catchiest and it gives birth to all sorts of crazy and funny ideas. The Wiimote's motion reacting feature can be implemented into almost anything electronic, but most inventions of this sort can't be used for good practical reasons. People mainly do it for fun.

Just
when I thought I'd seen it all (after watching a video on YouTube about a DJ making strange sounds using the Wiimote), today I stumbled upon another video, on the same site, which was about two guys who bundled the Wiimote's software and motion recognition ability with a robotic arm. Not exactly something nobody would have thought of but it's interesting, a little dangerous as well and definitely something you shouldn't try at home. In fact, you shouldn't try it at all.

One of the guys is an expert in software and another in mechanics so what better combination of abilities than this, to get the job done? They changed the machine's control software to the Wiimote's one and tied a tennis racquet to its end. After calculating and inputting the values necessary to comply with their invention, it was time to give it a go.

While one guy threw tennis balls up in the air, the other one tried hitting them with the racquet using the Wiimote to control the arm. He missed a few but then got the hang of it and soon became an expert. See the video and try to appreciate their effort even if it doesn't seem that spectacular.

Next thing you know, we'll be fighting wars using the Wiimotes. Actually, let's hope we won't.
