Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has just announced that BlackBerry users who are still using the BlackBerry App World client version 1.1 would need to upgrade to a newer version of the software.

BlackBerry App World 1.1 would have to upgrade to the latest version of the application, the company announced. The upgrade is required so that users would be able to benefit from the latest features that RIM has packed the BlackBerry App World 2.1 with.

“Starting [April 8th], existing BlackBerry App World 1.1 users will be required to upgrade to the latest version of BlackBerry App World. This upgrade will affect only a small percentage of current BlackBerry App World users,” a recent post on Inside BlackBerry reads.

Users of the older flavor of the BlackBerry App World would receive the following message when firing it up: “You must upgrade your client in order to continue.”

The latest BlackBerry App World 2.1 flavor can be installed through hitting the “download now” button when prompted, or through heading to the Download BlackBerry App World page to download and install it via a desktop PC.

According to RIM, users who would upgrade to the new flavor of the BlackBerry App World would benefit from a wide range of enhancements, including: - BlackBerry ID account syncing - Carrier billing (dependent upon user region and carrier), credit card, PayPal payment support - Improved navigation with Top 25 lists and enhanced application carousel - App barcode scanning support - In-app payment support

BlackBerry users who would like to access more info on how to perform the said upgrade can head over to the mobile phone maker's BlackBerry Technical Solution Center website for that. Specific details on the process are available on this article: KB26170.

As stated above, the upgrade process would affect only a small amount of BlackBerry users. Those who would like to learn more info on the features that BlackBerry App World 2.1 sports should head to the company's blog for that.
