One of the BlackBerry smartphones that Canadian handset vendor Research In Motion is set to bring to the market during the ongoing year would be the BlackBerry Torch 2, which has just emerged in a series of hands-on photos.

We already spotted the device before, but no specific info on what it would sport compared to the original Torch has emerged until now.

However, the guys over at BGR managed to get their hands on one BlackBerry Torch 2 unit, and provided some info on the device, along with a series of photos so that we could make an idea of what it would look like.

One of the most appealing features of the new device would be the 1.2GHz application processor that RIM reportedly packed it with, which should translate into much better performance levels.

Moreover, the new device is said to run under RIM's BlackBerry OS 6.1 platform, and is expected to become official next month, during the BlackBerry World.

For what it's worth, it seems that RIM is indeed set to make a slash at the upcoming event, as it is expected to unveil at least three new devices, including the Torch 2, Bold Touch, and BlackBerry Touch (Monaco), all of which would run under OS 6.1.

The outer design of the new BlackBerry Torch 2 is similar with the one of the original Torch, even if the internals have been changed. The phone has the same physical dimensions, it seems, and boast a 640 x 480-pixel touchscreen display, along with the vertical sliding QWERTY keyboard.

The same as its predecessor, the new BlackBerry Torch 2 is expected to land on shelves at AT&T, something that might happen in July, it seems.

Overall, the new smartphone is said to be offering great performance levels, being able to deliver the impressive experience that any user might have expected for it to offer.

Nothing is confirmed on this device for the time being, but, provided that the device would indeed go official next month, it should not be too long before that happens. In the meantime, have a look at the available photos with it, or head over to BGR here for more of them.
