As promised, The iPhone Dev Team has incorporated the ‘untethered’ exploit used by Chronic Dev’s Greenpois0n within PwnageTool, their own popular jailbreak application for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and even the Apple TV.

The iPhone Dev Team’s official announcement begins “What’s in a name?” Well in the case of an HFS volume name on iOS, an untether exploit — as the Chronic Dev Team revealed last week with an untether for the 4.2.1 jailbreak, which had previously been a tethered JB for most recent devices since 4.2.1’s release in November.

As reported by Softpedia last week, the iPhone Dev Team was waiting for the ‘green’ light from Chronic Dev to use the Greenpois0n exploit in their own tools.

Apparently, they’ve been given permission to do so.

“With their permission, we’ve incorporated their 4.2.1 ‘feedface’ untether into today’s PwnageTool 4.2,” the Dev Team reveals.

“This means iPhone unlockers can safely restore to a custom 4.2.1 pre-jailbroken IPSW and retain their current baseband and unlock. PwnageTool also supports all the other 4.2.1 devices other than iPod touch 2G,” the Team outlines.

Devices supported by PwnageTool 4.2 (‘untethered’) are: iPhone 3G; iPhone 3GS; iPhone 4; iPhone 4-Verizon; iPod touch 3G; iPod touch 4G; iPad; AppleTV 2G.

The Dev Team further notes that this updated version of PwnageTool “also includes two very recent improvements to the 4.2.1 jailbreak.

As we reported ourselves yesterday, “iBooks was just fixed by @comex and @pushfix last night so that it works as intended on DRMed books, and the wifi problem on AppleTV 2G was fixed by @nitotv, @DHowett, and @saurik,” the Team notes.

According to the Team’s blog post, both of these fixes will also be available in upcoming Cydia package updates.

Those who’ve already jailbroken their device can wait for those updates rather than restore and jailbreak again, the Team advises.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
