Musclenerd of the iPhone Dev Team has confirmed via Twitter that his group plans to update PwnageTool with the Greenpois0n ‘untethered’ exploit as soon as they are given the go-ahead from Chronic Dev, the makers of the Greenpois0n jailbreak tool.

Last week, Chronic Dev was proud to introduce the first reliable, untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 devices.

The hackers rolled out an updated version of their Greenpois0n application, but only for Mac OS X in the first day of availability.

Next came the Windows version, while Linux users are yet to receive their own version, according to the Chronic Dev site.

In the meanwhile, iPhone Dev Team member Musclenerd (arguably the most vocal in this group of iOS hackers) announced via Twitter that an ‘untethered’ jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 was being made available.

Musclenerd took this opportunity to promote their own jailbreak solution, PwnageTool, which may gain ‘untethered’ support for iOS 4.2.1.

“We'll update PwnageTool with this 4.2.1 untether if we get the okay from cdev,” Musclenerd wrote in a tweet. He then congratulated the folks who made Greenpoison 1.0 RC5 a reality: “Good job @pod2g and @chronicdevteam!”

Known as the most reliable jailbreak solution out there, PwnageTool is only available as a Macintosh application, though the iPhone Dev Team has Windows solutions as well.

Should PwnageTool gain the aforementioned support, the iOS community should also see the Redsn0w jailbreak utility (Mac and Windows) updated with the new exploit.
