The free iBooks application by Apple has reached version 1.2.1 which, according to the changelog posted by the Cupertino, California electronics giant, delivers a number of stability and performance improvements.

Apple describes its iBooks app as being “an amazing way to download and read books.”

“iBooks includes the iBookstore, where you can download the latest best-selling books or your favorite classics – day or night,” the company explains.

“Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages,” reads the official iBooks description.

iBooks 1.2.1 can be considered a minor update, given that it only brings one change.

However, those who use the app on a daily basis will be extremely glad to see that it takes far less to open boos, or swipe through pages once they apply the update.

The release notes (available below) would indicate that iBooks 1.2.1 packs more than just stability and performance improvements (highlight ours).

However, Apple has thoughtfully included the list of new additions in iBooks 1.2 as well, just in case users forgot to update their native book-reading app.

What's New In Version 1.2.1

Includes a number of important stability and performance improvements.

• Experience fully illustrated books, from children's picture books to beautifully designed art books, available for download in the iBookstore. • Organize your books and PDFs into personal Collections. Swipe left or right to jump between Collections. • Print PDF documents and notes you've written in iBooks using AirPrint. • iBooks now fits more words per page by automatically hyphenating text, available only on iOS 4.2 or later.

iBooks works with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch (2nd generation), iPod touch (3rd generation), and iPod touch (4th generation).

The app requires iOS 4 or later and an Apple ID, if you’re going to download content from the iBookstore. Users can also manually add their own books (published in the ePub electronic book format), including those in PDF format.

Some PDF documents may not be compatible with iBooks, Apple notes.
