Mobile phone carrier Vodafone UK is among the first wireless carriers in the world to bring the Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY smartphones from Sony Ericsson to its customers, and the company has already made these devices available for pre-order.

UK users interested in any of the two can now head over to the wireless carrier's website to reserve a unit, here for the Xperia arc and here for the Xperia PLAY.

Both of these mobile phones arrive on the market with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, and both of them should become available for purchase starting with April 1st, the wireless carrier announced.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc is available at Vodafone for free upon the signing of a new contract agreement on Pay monthly plans starting at £30.

The mobile phone arrives on shelves with a large 4.2-inch touchscreen display with Mobile BRAVIA Technology, along with an 8.1 megapixel photo snapper on the back, with HD video recording capabilities, and more.

The handset measures just 8.7mm at its thinnest point, and sports a HDMI socket, microSD memory card slot, on-screen QWERTY keypad, as well as support for a wide range of applications available for download via the Android Market.

As for the Xperia PLAY smartphone, it should be available for free on a minimum £35 per month contract.

This is the first smartphone in the world to be PlayStation certified, and sports, beneath its touchscreen display, a sliding game pad with all of the popular PlayStation controls included into the mix.

The specifications list of this device would include 400MB of internal storage, an 8GB microSD card (supports up to 32GB), 4-inch screen, 1GHz CPU, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU, and support for HD games specifically developed for it.

The mobile phone would also land on shelves with a series of pre-loaded games on board.
