Tired of owning a $600 PS3 and not having any great titles to play? Good thing there's that PlayStation Network that you can check out every now and then for new additions. Now don't go and see what's new, we'll tell you what's up on the service and ready to fill up some space on your console's HDD. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the PSone original. As part of the weekly PSN update, the full game is now available for $9.99.

Here are some facts about the game:

Symphony of the Night is often considered to have the best soundtrack of any game in the Castlevania series due to its expertly varied style. Composed by Michiru Yamane, the soundtrack contains elements from multiple music genres including techno, metal (including its sub-genres heavy metal, power metal, symphonic metal and neo-classical metal) and the standard Castlevania gothic-themed music, as I found up on Wikipedia.

Castlevania project leader and producer Koji "IGA" Igarashi has stated quite some time ago, that the canceled Castlevania game, "The Bloodletting," eventually became what we now call Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. With the cancellation of the SEGA 32X as a viable development platform, the team was tasked with developing a new game, so what was usable from The Bloodletting was absorbed into the Symphony of the Night project.

Gameplay in Symphony of the Night adheres to the standard precepts of 2D platforming. The game's protagonist is Alucard, whose most basic moves are to attack with multiple weapons and jump. As he explores the castle, new abilities, such as the power to transform into a bat, become available.

But what made it a real winner back when it was first released, is that it boasts a very liberal control scheme compared to its predecessors in the Castlevania franchise. For example, the ability to double-jump and change direction in mid-air. Lots of new of weapons were also introduced.

Are you still with me? Surely you're not, I bet you're staring at the download gauge. OK then, have fun!
