Apparently, gamers are faced with the same two choices this time around - USD 499 and USD 599

This one's a shocker. Well, to those who haven't kept themselves updated anyway. Hear this: Evil Avatar has picked up on an interview over at GameIndustry.biz with Sony's Peter Moore, where Moore claims he doesn't see a price cut occurring with the PS3. Say wha...? That's right. And his statement is not so far from the truth either. Last year, PlayStation fans had two options with Sony's next-gen machine: the 20GB SKU ($499) and the 60GB model ($599). This year it's the same, Sony's only offering a little bit more disk space for the same money.

Not that we didn't see it, but hey, if you think about it, the 80GB PS3 has indeed seen a price reduction. Actually, that goes for the 60GB model as well. Yeah, well... anyway, here's what Moore told GamesIndustry.biz in the interview: "Interestingly, I didn't see a price cut, and I must have been reading the wrong thing. It's still USD 499 and USD 599."

"They've added greater value at the same prices. Which to me is not a price cut. I don't want to be anal, but I read "price cut" and I expected to see USD 399," he continued. "When I hear the words "price cut" I expect to see a price cut."

I can't believe I didn't say it myself earlier. The first thing that came to mind when Sony's David Karraker officially announced the $100 price cut, was the 20GB PS3: "of course they're going to drop the 60GB PS3's price to the 20GB SKU's, (having withdrawn it from the market and all). It's obvious," I said to myself. No, actually I didn't, but the thought had crossed my mind for a second or two.

Anyway, it's nice to hear it from one of Sony's members, I have to say. Good, now that everyone knows what they're paying for, all that remains for you to do is decide whether it's worth paying the extra hundred bucks for the extra 40 gigs of hard drive space (80GB PS3).
